Part L 2021 made the direction of travel clear enough: new build residential and most care home schemes go heat pump by default. The question facing a main contractor’s estimating team isn’t usually which heating technology to specify. It’s whether the M&E subcontractor they’re appointing can design the heating system themselves, carry PI insurance through to handover, and deliver it as part of a full mechanical package that includes fire suppression, ventilation and BMS — rather than as a standalone heating appointment that creates three more interfaces to manage.
Anders covers all three heating technologies most commonly specified on multi-residential and care home schemes: air source heat pumps (monobloc and split system), ambient loop with individual per-dwelling heat pumps, and heat pump hot water. We’re a Mitsubishi Electric approved ASHP installer. Our in-house design team produces the heating drawings in Revit alongside the ventilation, sprinkler and plumbing scopes on the same model, not in a separate consultant’s office that doesn’t talk to the install team.

Heating Technologies We Deliver
Mitsubishi Electric approved installer for monobloc and split-system ASHP on new build apartments, care homes and low-rise residential across the South East. Heating drawings produced in Revit to Part L 2021 and SAP 10. Hot water provision is sized as part of the heating design from day one rather than bolted on by a separate trade when the plant room’s already framed. Mitsubishi extended warranty preserved through our approved installer status. Where the scheme specifies a different manufacturer, we install to the same standard with appropriate compliance documentation
A shared low-temperature water loop runs at near-ground temperature through the building or estate. Each dwelling has its own water-to-water heat pump that lifts the loop temperature to space heating and DHW temperature. Lower distribution losses than traditional district heating HIU systems running off central plant at 70°C or above. Each tenant pays for the electricity their own heat pump uses, not an opaque heat charge. Cleaner route through the GLA energy hierarchy, and it avoids the regulatory burden of the Heat Network Regulations. Anders is one of a small number of UK contractors actually delivering ambient loop on live projects, with design and installation kept in-house from loop sizing through to commissioning.
Exhaust air heat pumps, dedicated heat pump hot water plant and ASHP-with-DHW configurations for apartments, care homes and sheltered accommodation. EAHP performs well on SAP because the exhaust air source at 18 to 22°C produces a higher COP than outdoor air. Dedicated CO2 hot water plant earns its place where stored hot water at 60°C-plus is required without a secondary immersion. Mitsubishi Ecodan and NIBE communal plant specified to the scheme, with DHW strategy sized alongside the heating design rather than as a downstream add-on.

Our in-house design team works in Revit and BIM with PI-insured drawings from RIBA Stage 1 through to Stage 6 handover. Our fire suppression team designs and installs residential sprinkler systems to BS 9251:2021 in-house rather than subcontracting it on. We’re one of a small number of UK contractors actively delivering ambient loop heating systems for multi-residential developments. Constructionline Gold accredited, Mitsubishi Electric approved for ASHP, Gas Safe registered.

Yes. Approved Mitsubishi Electric ASHP installer status means extended warranty cover on Mitsubishi equipment, approved installer documentation for SAP and SBEM compliance sign-off, and a direct manufacturer relationship if product issues arise on site. On schemes where the specification calls for Mitsubishi Ecodan or similar, our installation keeps the warranty and compliance position clean.
In a standard ASHP scheme, each dwelling has its own air source heat pump pulling heat from outdoor air. In an ambient loop scheme, a shared water loop runs at near-ground temperature and each dwelling has a water-to-water heat pump extracting heat from the loop. Lower distribution losses, simpler tenant billing, and usually a better route through the GLA energy hierarchy. The critical difference for procurement is that ambient loop needs designing properly from the outset — the loop architecture decisions made at Stage 2 and 3 shape the whole scheme. It can’t be retrofitted into an ASHP scheme that’s already priced.
Yes, and it matters that the heating designer and the DHW specifier are the same team. Hot water provision is where ASHP residential schemes most often fall over: cylinders sized for the wrong load, DHW competing with space heating for plant room space, gaps between what the heating designer assumed and what the DHW contractor installed. We design both from the same desk at the same stage.
Does the heating scope always come as part of a full mechanical package?
Yes. Anders delivers heating as part of a full mechanical appointment, not as a standalone heating-only subcontract. The heating design sits on the same Revit model as the ventilation and sprinkler layouts. If you’re looking for a heating-only subcontractor, we’re probably not the right fit.
Not by name, but the SAP 10 methodology means ASHP is by far the most common route to compliance on new build residential. Gas heating systems typically can’t achieve the SAP target score under the 2021 uplift. Ambient loop and dedicated heat pump hot water plant are increasingly common alongside ASHP. The heating strategy and the compliance route need designing together — which is why it helps when the same team produces the heating drawings and the SAP calculations, rather than two separate parties comparing notes at the end of Stage 4.
